Jaisalmer Fort

Built in 1156 by the Indian King Rawal Jaisal, the fort is on a site that legend says he chose on the advice of a wise local hermit.

Jaisalmer Fort is situated in the city of Jaisalmer, in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is believed to be one of the very few "living forts" in the world, as nearly one fourth of the old city's population still resides within the fort. For the better part of its 800-year history, the fort was the city of Jaisalmer.

Gadi Sagar Lake

One of the most well-known tourist attractions in Jaisalmer, Gadi Sagar Lake originally was a man-made reservoir that was founded to provide a source of water to the people of Jaisalmer. Founded in 1367 by the first ruler of the city Maharawal Jaisal, this reservoir was revamped by Maharawal Garsi Singh. The banks of the Lake consist of shrines, temples, ghats and Chattris.

Placed southwards of the city, this Lake has an entry archway in yellow sandstone, Telia-Pol, which was made by Telia, a royal courtesan. One can indulge in boat riding here or simply enjoy a leisure walk. The Jaisalmer fort in the backdrop, offers an amazing view. This Lake is largely visited during the yearly celebrations of Gangaur festival.

Havelis Of Jaisalmer

There are a number of Havelis in Jaisalmer which feature different types of architecture like Rajputana and Islamic architecture. All the havelis are made using yellow sandstone and have beautifully carved facades and beautiful oriel windows. The beauty of these havelis is truly unmatched. The spectacular architecture of the havelis speaks of the creativity and innovation of craftsmen of those times. Some popular havelis of the city are Patwon Ki Haveli, Nathmal Ki Haveli and Salim Singh Ki Haveli.
